Rep. Spano on the End of the Impeachment Senate Trial

Statement

Date: Feb. 5, 2020
Location: Washington, DC

Today, U.S. Representative Ross Spano (R-FL) released the following statement following the Senate acquittal of President Donald J. Trump:

"The time has come to turn the page on this sham impeachment process and for congressional Democrats to start working on behalf of the American people. There is so much to be done nationwide-- from infrastructure to healthcare, to ensuring we continue our robust economic growth; 2020 has the potential to be our best year yet! After 3 years and millions of taxpayers' dollars wasted, I am glad to see our President vindicated and the American people prospering."

On Sept. 24, 2019, Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) announced an official impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump based on allegations from an unnamed, and still unidentified whistleblower, regarding a call he had with the new Ukrainian President. The inquiry resulted in House Democrats producing two articles of impeachment against President Trump: one for abuse of power and one obstruction of Congress. On December 18th of the same year, the House formally voted to impeach the President.

Rep. Spano did not vote in favor of impeachment and has rejected its premise from the beginning based on the lack of evidence, absence of due process, and an obvious political motivation.

Today's Senate vote was 52-48 in favor of acquittal for Article I, and 53-47 in favor of acquittal for Article II.
